Dermoscopy or dermatoscopy is a special examination of the surface of the skin performed by a dermatologist. Dermoscopy is mainly used for evaluation of pigment skin lesions. In experienced hands it can facilitate the diagnosis of melanoma.
Dermoscopy requires the use of a special magnifying glass (a dermatoscope). It enabes the examination of skin structures and patterns.

- For an easier diagnosis, stop using any medications and cosmetics you used to treat the dermatological problem, at least 7 days before the consultation;
- Bring available medical documentation – tests, prescriptions, medical records from a hospital stay, etc .;
- Bring any medications (or a list of them) you are currently taking for other conditions;
- If your dermatological problem affects the hairy part of the head, do not shampoo your hair for at least 3 days before the examination;
- If your dermatological problem affects your fingernails and / or toenails and you have applied nail polish, remove the nail polish;
- In addition to his informed consent, the consent of his parent or guardian is required for the performance of medical activities in minor patients (up to 18 years of age).
- The consent of the parent or guardian is not required for health consultations, follow ups and tests of persons over 16 years of age.
- When the patient is a minor (under 14 years of age) or handicaped, informed consent is expressed by his parent or guardian, except in cases provided by law.
- Persons under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during medical examinations and manipulations. Persons from 16 to 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during medical procedures.
